Microsoft Corp excluded Java support from Windows XP. Whenever a Java applet is attempted to run, the following message appers: We're sorry. Automatic installation of Microsoft Virtual Machine is no longer provided for Microsoft Windows XP.
The workaround:
Download Java Plug-in for example from Sun Microsystems and install it.
Important!
The latest stable version should be selected from the list (without the word Beta next to it). At the moment of this writing its 1.4.2.
- From the page http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html click DOWNLOAD in the line "32-bit/64-bit for Windows/Linux/Solaris SPARC 32-bit for Solaris x86" and column JRE (in the third section "Download J2SE v 1.4.2_03")
- Follow through the pages (subscription and license). Then you will get to the page where download actually starts.
- Once the file is downloaded Java Plug-in'ом (today its j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe) you need to run it if Microsoft Internet Explorer does not start installation automatically. Make sure you add the Plug-in to Microsoft Internet Explorer by placing a check mark in an appropriate field during installation
