In addition to displaying quotations, the IDLe allows to work with news. The news download happens automatically and is perfectly transparent for the user. Upon connecting to the server the IDLe receives a packet of several news headlines. The size of this packet is determined by the server and is independent on either the IDLe setting, or the previously received news. Receiving of the article bodies can occur at the same time as well as later, depending on the settings. Later, the new messages are received online, if the connection to the server is maintained.

The received news is written to the filenews.dbf (dBase III format). At each closing of the IDLe this file will be analyzed and the outdated records removed according to the settings.

You can store an almost unlimited news history, but it should be kept in mind, that the volume of the news amounts to a several megabytes every day, so the monthly history can dramatically reduce the space available on your hard drive. Moreover, the large volume of the historical database can slow down the IDLe. The news download can also have a very deleterious effect on the quotation download rate. The default news setting are selected in such a way as to avoid any influence of the news download on the overall productivity of the IDLe, therefore it is advisable to change them only if you are sure of the connection quality and the processing power of your computer. It should also be understood, that lengthy intervals between the IDLe sessions will inescapably lead to the loss of some data (corresponding to the duration of the inactivity) because of the impossibility for its download from the server.

News

The news can be filtered (sorted). Moreover, the bodies of the news articles can be viewed in the main window (2) or in the separate windows.

News filtering is accomplished with the aid of the tree of groups (3) located to the left of the news panel. Right-clicking the mouse will cause the drop-down menu that can be used to create a new group (filter), change an existing group's parameters, remove or rename a group, to appear. Having selected the group, you will see the list of news headlines (1) that match the specified criteria.

The group parameters dialog looks as follows:

News filter

The filter is specified with three fields: Main Key, Date and Header. Through the Main Key you can specify the list of keys and the use of this list (the upper field). Two options are possible: All except (include all keys except for the specified list) and Keys list: (include the keys only from the specified list). If you wouldn't like to filter using this key, use the All except key with an empty list. In addition to that, you can also select a date range (dates between), within which you wish to receive the news for the filter. If you don't wish to filter with respect to the dates, select a wide enough date range. And, finally, the news may be filtered with respect the the presence of a key word in the title (title contains). If this field is left blank, the filtering with respect to this feature will not occur.

Viewing the news can be done either in the article body viewing field (2), or in a separate window that is called by double-clicking the mouse at the headline of news that interests you.

Copying of the contents and modifying the viewing parameters in both cases can be done through the drop-down menu.
