Using IDLe with Ensign for Windows (EfW) is similar to using it with MetaStock with a few notable exceptions:
- IDLe should be installed after EfW. In this case IDLe will automatically determine all settings.
- EfW keeps history in files with strictly defined names and locations. Consequently IDLe needs to know path to those files.
- EfW keeps metadata together with data, thus IDLe cannot automatically determine last update time as opposed to MetaStock.
- We do not know how to automatically update open EfW charts after downloading historic data. The charts are automatically updated only when real-time data is received.
- EfW keeps just 5000 bars by default. If the number of bars exceed this number, EfW fails to produce correct charts, it may corrupt the data. IDLe has to be aware of this limitation. The appropriate option is provided.
- EfW was designed to work exclusively with real time data. It adds new instruments automatically. Consequently, when you use IDLe to download data to EfW for the first time, even if you expect to work with historic data only, check "Keep Connection" and "Send data to clients" options and wait until all instruments appear in the "Quotes" window of EfW.
Data downloading for EfW should be done as follows:
- Check IDLe options "Keep connection", "Download period" (should be no less than 60 minites). Check "Data file size" and "Ensign folder". Check "Enable Ensign support". If EfW installed after IDLe, use the button "Obtain values from Ensign".
- If you are using IDLe for the first time, open "Quote spreadsheet" window and by using a pop-up menu add all desired instruments.
- Launch EfW. If you are starting EfW together with IDLe for the first time, choose menu item "Setup|Connection". In the "Connection" field choose "eSignal Internet". In a few seconds in the "Data Feed" a message should appear "Manager Connect"
- Use IDLe to load data as described elsewhere.
- If you are loading data for the first time, open EfW quote window. Go to "$" item. Make sure all instruments you chose are in the table. If not, close the window, wait for a few seconds and try again.
- Now you can open the chart. It is not necessary to repeate these actions every time. Just remember, once a chart is open, it is not automatically updated after downloading bulk historic data. Thus charts have to be reopened after the download.
